Welcome to Church of the Valley
PASTOR MIKE INVITES YOU: To experience life in a greater dimension. The sermon series entitled “Living in the Presence of the Future” has begun at both worship services. We are examining the miracles of Jesus to see what they reveal about living with Jesus now and forever. Jesus’ miracles break down our common assumptions about life and show us a new way of kingdom living.
COMING UP NEXT SUNDAY: Next Sunday in worship Pastor Mike shares about when Jesus stilled the raging sea in Mark 4:35-41. The message “Finding the Calm in the Storm” examines how to find peace in the midst of the storms we face in our lives. Where do you need greater faith to face your fears?
HAMBURGER TIME AGAIN: The Voyager chefs will have the barbeque sizzling to celebrate the start of a new year for the Voyagers on September 17 at 5:00 PM. All you can eat hamburgers and hot dogs, plus all the fixin's. Nothing to bring but a salad or dessert (not even your table service this time!). Remember 5:00 PM, not 6:00 PM to beat sundown. There will be time to share your ideas concerning 2008 and 2009.
Refuge! Sunday Night, September 28 at 6:00 PM. Open to all who want to know Jesus Christ, his love, mercy, and forgiveness.
STUDENT MINISTRIES MISSION TRIP PEOPLE: Please note…..A meeting to debrief on the mission trip will take place on Sunday, September 7 after each service. (in the Sanctuary after 9:00 AM service & Hansen Hall after the 10:30 AM service).
SUNDAY SCHOOL: Regular Sunday School will begin on September 7. If you don’t have your child registered already, please do so before Sunday School starts or by September 7. Registration cards, and a box to deposit them, are in the lobbies of the Sanctuary and Hansen Hall. Confirmation Class, High School, and Jr. High Sunday School also start on September 7.
CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES NEEDS TEACHERS: Regular Sunday School will begin the first week of September, and we need teachers! If you would like to contribute to the future of the church, please consider teaching our children! Age groups available are Pre-K, Kindergarten, First, Fourth, and Fifth. Contact Children’s Ministries at ext. 237, 238, or 245. Thank you!
Please note that the Adult Sunday School class will not be meeting again until September 14. Our new study at that time will be in the book of Genesis. Same time: 10:30 AM, same place: Room 3. See you then!
PRECEPTS BIBLE STUDY: A Precepts Bible Study will begin on Monday, September 8, and we will be studying the book of Deuteronomy. . We would love to have you join us for this very in-depth and spiritually stimulating study. Please stop by the registration tables today to pre-order your books—the cost is $20.00 per person. Please join us!!
AN OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE “JOYFULLY”—ESL (English as a Second Language), the new Laubach program, Wednesdays at 9:00 AM in Room 1 of Hansen Hall. Because of the awareness of this language program—one teacher for one student—we are always in need of teachers. No teaching experience is necessary. This is a unique experience. Not only do you provide the student with the ability to get along better in our society, but you provide them with a friend as you make a new one. Classes are Wednesdays, from 9:15 to 11:15 AM and follow the school year. Substitutes are available. If you are interested (and we hope you are!) call Barbara Hove at 243-7026 or Katherine Schlack at 247-4543. Please give this program your prayerful consideration. You could really make a difference in a life.
ALL-CHURCH BABY SHOWER: The Dorcas Hand-made’n Society is having an All-Church Baby Shower on Saturday, September 20, from 2:00-4:30 PM in Hansen Hall. We would like anyone attending to bring a new or handmade baby gift, such as newborn onesies/sleepers, bottles, blankets, diapers, or socks. Please do not wrap the articles. They will be put together in layettes to be given to Moses House, Healthy Beginnings, and our own Crisis Ministry. Join us for the fun and joy of helping others. Bring your friends and neighbors.
RUMMAGE: Our barns and cups are full. We’re drinking from the saucer. Last drop-off and pick-up for donated items will be September 8. This is necessary because all products must be sorted before setting up for the sale on October 3 & 4, and we do not have room to store a surplus of items. Embrace the fellowship, receive our Lord’s blessing. Come on over and give yourself as a living sacrifice and work Rummage. Reference: Isaiah 58.
QUILTERS AND CRISIS MINISTRY: The Quilters Corps of Victor Valley, who meet at our church each month, are raffling off a quilt at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds on Friday and Saturday, September 12 & 13, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. There will be over 200 quilts (some for sale), handcrafted items and gift baskets for your early Christmas shopping! Tickets are $5.00 each. They are generously donating proceeds to our Crisis Ministry.
GIVING ENVELOPES FOR 2009: If you do not have giving envelopes for COV and would like to order them for the 2009 year, or if you already receive them, but would like to switch from weekly to monthly envelopes, or monthly to weekly, please call Dawn at ext. 236 by September 29. Thank you.
