Welcome to Church of the Valley
THIS SUNDAY IN WORSHIP:Pastor Mike concludes the 1 Peter Summer Bible series with the message “Rewarded for Following Christ” from 1Peter 5:1-14. The Lord wants us to succeed and clearly states how He rewards those who follow Him. Be encouraged in your walk with the Lord!
NEXT SUNDAY IN WORSHIP: Consider the incredible and practical wisdom of God on how to deeply love one another in 1 Corinthians 13. Pastor Mike’s first message for this campaign is “Love Matters Most” from 1 Corinthians 13:1-3. How we love God and each other matters more than anything else in life.
40 DAYS OF LOVE: Next week begins our “40 Days of Love” campaign through Sunday worship and messages, small groups and special events. The campaign centers on the great chapter on love in 1 Corinthians 13. Sign up today for your small group! Starting today every participant can pick up their small group study guide. (Suggested donation of $5 to help us cover costs.) Each small group receives a DVD with a discussion starting video for each meeting. Attend our Kickoff Dinner next Sunday, September 12 at 5:00 PM in Hansen Hall. Learn how to encourage, strengthen, motivate, mature and deepen our love for each other at COV the “Heart of the Valley.”
SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS: Sunday School begins next week, Sunday, September 12 at 10:30 AM in Room 4. Children ages 4 years old through 5th grade are invited to come and enjoy learning about and praising our Lord and Savior. Music, crafts, and games as well as bible lessons are just some of the things they will be doing. Remember, children ages infant through 3 years old are always welcome in our Childcare Center in Room 8. Questions? Call Dusty in the church office at (760) 247-6494 x238 or e-mail dustyf@churchofthevalley.net.
PRAYER VIGIL FOR FORTY DAYS OF LOVE: Let our hearts beat together in prayer from 7:00 AM Saturday, September 11 to 7:00 AM Sunday, September 12. Please consider when you will pray for this important time in the life of our congregation. Pray that we grow ever deeper and abound in love ever greater for one another and for our Lord. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s presence to be clearly felt as He joins in through the lives and testimoniesof each of us, His Church. Pray that deep and life changing truths will be manifested throughout our time together as we explore the truths of 1 Corinthians 13. Please select your time of prayer and let’s see the great things that the Lord will do for those who continue to put their trust in Him.
LOVE TO SING? Sanctuary choir begins again this Wednesday, September 8 at 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary, and we would welcome new members to join us in our ministry of praise before the Lord. No audition required, just a love of singing, a heart for service and an ability to match pitch within your section. Come join the COV Sanctuary Choir family. Those who sing pray twice!
JUST WHAT YOU’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR: English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adults are resuming on Wednesday mornings, beginning on September 15 at Church of the Valley from 9:00 AM to 11:15 AM. Classes are taught on a one student, one teacher basis so the need for teachers is great. No teaching experience or foreign language ability is required. A meeting of all new and experienced teachers will be on Friday, September 10 at 10:30 AM followed by a pizza lunch. At this time new teachers will receive an orientation course on use of materials plus valuable teaching hints. What an opportunity to brighten a life!
ALL CHURCH BABY SHOWER: The Dorcas Hand-made'n Society is having its third annual All Church Baby Shower Sunday, September 26, 2010 from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM in Hansen Hall Short. Please bring a new or handmade unwrapped baby gift. We will distribute the gifts to Moses House, Healthy Beginnings and our Crisis Center.
GREETERS NEEDED! The Welcome Team Ministry is a most important and integral part of COV. We are in need of Greeters at both services. One Sunday and one service a month is all the commitment of time that is needed. This is an important instrument of love, unity and family here at COV. The reflection of the radiance of God's love for you and for others in your welcoming smile and warm handshake is an important presence for members and especially visitors. A greeter can make the difference between visitors feeling as if though they are walking into a movie theater or that of a home.
CHRISTIANS ENCOUNTERING CHALLENGES: Because one had a need, and expressed that need, many now benefit. We offer a fellowship for anyone feeling challenged by life’s situations or handicaps. We meet the second and fourth Wednesdays from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM in Room 1A of the Family Life Center for fellowship and encouragement. Everyone is Welcome.
RUMMAGE SORTING: Rummage will now be sorting every Monday except Monday, September 6 in observance of Labor Day between now and the next Rummage sale in October. We will meet from 8:00 AM to noon.
